IAPP Asia Forum 2026: Key Reflections on the Future of AI Governance
Over the past two days, the discussions covered many important questions across privacy, AI governance, cybersecurity law, cross-border data transfers, online safety, Agentic AI, and the use of data and AI in healthcare.
A few themes stayed with me:
No one-size-fits-all approach to AI governance.
The era of Agentic AI is coming.
The “Brussels Effect” is now being discussed alongside a possible “APAC Effect” in shaping the future of AI governance.
For me, this forum reinforced one key point:
AI governance is no longer only about compliance. It is becoming a strategic capability for organizations that want to adopt AI responsibly, safely, and sustainably.
At the same time, governance should not become a barrier that slows down every AI initiative. The real challenge is to find the right balance between governance and innovation.
I will review my notes and selected presentation materials, and from next week onward, I will gradually share key insights and reflections from IAPP Asia Forum 2026 through a series of LinkedIn articles.
I will share these reflections from the perspective of a lawyer, an AI governance advisor, and a former corporate operations leader.
